Youth Strike MCR: in person

So incase you've been living under a rock, you'll have noticed that Youth Strike MCR suspended all in person strikes since March 2020. BUT we're back, bigger and better than before, with our returning strike scheduled for the global day of action: Friday 24th September. TODAY.

The team has been very busy during COVID; all our activities have been taking place virtually. We've grown substantially in membership, and even have a newsletter to share our updates and events. All of this has been leading up to the first physical strike in 18 months. We've also been busy creating educational resources about the climate crisis to share with schools and youth groups.

Today in St Peter's Square, from 12-2, young people mobilised once again to protest against climate change and to demand a better future. Organisations such as Fridays For Future and Friends of the Earth were present, and as always, our strikes were family friendly and open to anyone with an interest in climate change. We had a brilliant mix of people, young and old, all there because they wanted to show their commitment to a better future.

My favourite thing about striking is the variety of activities; chanting, speeches and music! We had someone who played the guitar and sang a couple of songs. We had someone dressed in a polar bear costume who danced along to the music. We had so many young children attend, who particularly enjoyed using the chalk to draw and write messages on the ground.

Our return was everything we could have hoped for. We're here to remind everyone that the climate is still a prevalent issue, one that needs immediate attention.

The next strike is Friday 22nd October. Until then, follow our instagram and twitter: @youthstrikemcr for updates. You can join the team too and get involved in the planning of the next strike to make even more of a difference!

Special thank you to Patagonia for providing such brilliant support :)

*All COVID procedures were followed, with participants asked to take lateral flow tests before arriving. The team also ensured there was plenty of hand sanitiser bottles and anti-bacterial wipes present for cleaning the microphones and megaspeakers.
