EUROS x Coming Home

Like any other hopeful, I was watching the England v Denmark game on Wednesday, and England WON. So, we're in the EURO finals for the first time EVER. It's no big deal. I'm not crying, you're crying.

England v Denmark

The game was a good one. While England eventually won 2-1, it was far from easy. The first goal was technically an own goal, and the second was scored by Captain Harry Kane on a free kick that rebounded from Danish goalkeeper Kaspar Schmeichel (son of famous goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel). The Danish team proved to be an effective opposition, and I did think it would go to penalties. I also thought this game had a lot of dives/falls, whether this was a slippy surface or players intentionally doing it is unknown. It was a big deal for us to even be in the semis, but now England really does feel it's coming home.

The Final

The final for the EUROS will be held at Wembley this Sunday (11th July) and England will be facing Italy. Italy will be a challenge; they have a strong team and the track record. They won the EUROS in 1968, and came second in 2000 and 2012. England has never won the EUROS or been in the final. However, England beat Germany earlier this year, and preceded to win every game so far, going further than any other England team in EUROS history.

England for the win

It is really all to play for. As a fan, I genuinely feel we can do it, the whole atmosphere of the country is supportive and believes it is coming home. And even if it doesn't; we've come so far and are so proud of what we've achieved. In a year where COVID has affected everyone, where our political landscape has never looked worse, England could do with a win.

England team, we'll all be cheering you on. The whole nation believes you can do it. Go and lift that trophy on Sunday night.
